Heater at 5NL
Arcias, Dec 27 2007
So I decided to take a shot at 10NL, being completely under-rolled. I went broke quite some time ago and only recently decided to try again, sticking $10 on to PokerStars to force myself to play the low limits. I ground it up at 2NL up to $30 and decided to take a shot at 10NL at the same time my friend tried to take a shot at 25NL. I failed miserably, tilting and overplaying QT and hitting a top pair with a T.
It's funny how we KNOW what we're doing is wrong but we still do it because we're stupid. My impatience and therefore tilt control is my biggest problem that I'm trying to deal with.
After losing a buy-in (and 1/3 of my BR), I jump into a 5NL game and I immediately go on a sick heater. There was a huge stack sitting with $30 and I took most of it away. He must've been drunk or suicidal or something cause he kept trying to bluff me when I showed a lot of strength. It also doesn't help that being tilted, I was unbluffable. The FIRST two hands I played when I sat down:

I know I missed value on this second hand, on both the turn and river. I suck. The turn is definitely a big mistake. The river, I put him on an A so I didn't want to run up the rake for a chop.
Any way, the heater tops off with me having the nut flush on the turn and a smaller flush pretty much going all-in.
I'm sitting with ~$30 at a 5NL table and I was about to call it a night when I pick up JJ, which I overplay on a monotone board and lose to a turned nut flush. The beats continue as I run into a set, two pair and a rivered flush. I left the table with about $17, which puts me up $2 for the session, which isn't too bad I guess considering how badly I played some hands.
New year, new beginnings and all that fun stuff. I'm sure there'll be a lot of "I'm not gonna tilt this year!" blog posts so I might as well stick mine in there. We'll see how long it lasts.
A little intro for those of you who are still around because you're obviously bored and have nothing else to do but read this
I started getting into poker about a year ago, got the Party bonus, lost it, deposited a couple times like $50, $25 here and there, played limits I shouldn't have, lost it. Played at the casino a couple times and managed to come away a winner most times. There was one night where I dropped $400 to a bunch of coolerish hands. Set over set, flopped straight vs flush, etc. After getting coolered, the tilt kicked in and it seemed the rest of the table knew it which made it worse.
I'm currently studying psychology, doing an internship right now as a research assistant before going back to classes and finishing up my degree next year. I also like to lurk the LP forums while I'm working and marvel at the sickness of some of the people we have in this community.
That's about it, I'll bore everyone again later.

So I did the whole PP $50 transfer thing, doubled it and promptly lost it trying out blackjack. I just want to say that I hate blackjack and I have no idea why I threw that money away.
Any way, I went down to $30 from the original $50 and have since made the money back through poker, and I thought that I might as well start this to keep track of daily gains/losses.
I'll start with that tomorrow.
